        2.     Home-Based Business Idea of the Week - Clip Art

Believe it or not, a huge proportion of the population is not
yet Internet savvy and still relies on the old-fashioned,
"bricks and mortar world" ways of doing certain things.

Here's where your offline clip art business comes in. Many
small business owners, for example, place ads in popular
offline publications. Have you ever seen an ad in a publication
that was just text? Just a big block of words. I'm sure you
have, and wasn't it boring? If you're scanning quickly
through ad sheets, your eye won't stop at a block of grey
        text. It'll skip right over.

To make an ad interesting and eye-catching, it's helpful to
use ready-made graphics called clip art. Your business is in
creating and producing ready-made clip art for sale to
        businesses placing these advertisements.

Clip-Arts are ready-to-use pictures, borders, headlines and
other little pieces of art, printed in groups on a page, that
can be clipped out and used in ads and publications. Clip art
can be found at office supply stores, and from mail order
dealers, as well, of course, on the Internet. Here's how you
can get into the business of selling clip art.

First, you need a source of clip art. If you, or a friend, are
artistically inclined, draw your own. Don't worry about
having to draw it small enough, you can reduce whatever
you've drawn with a photocopier. It's a good idea to make
your art relatively free of small details, since they'll get lost
when you photocopy the picture. Draw items that would be
useful in mail order ads (business related pictures, money,
mail, etc.). Then, reduce them and assemble them on one
page. You now have a product you can sell!

Another source of clip art is other dealers. Many dealers sell
copyright-free clip art packages that you can resell, either
for 100% profit or for a commission. The only drawback is it
will be the same clip art that others are selling. That's OK,
though, if you make sure to advertise it in places where
        other dealers aren't.

Finally, if you own a computer, you have a wealth of clip
art at your fingertips. Many graphics and sign-making
software packages allow you to create your own graphics.
These can be printed out and used as clip arts. A laser
printer will produce the best, professional quality clip art
you'll ever see. Of course, there's nothing to stop you from
offering your unique clip art online either.

        3.     Feature Article:  Articles ... The Best Form Of Free

        © 2017 Elena Fawkner

Those of you reading this who run your own online
businesses know that the aim of the game is traffic -
qualified, targeted traffic - and lots of it.

There are a number of ways to drive qualified traffic
to your site - some of it costs you money, some of it
costs you time.  Some of it costs you both and doesn't

This article is all about the best form of free advertising -
        writing articles.

How can writing articles give you free advertising?  As
you probably know, there are hundreds of thousands of
people publishing an ezine (electronic newsletter) on a
regular basis.  For some of these people, publishing the
ezine is the central plank of their business - they set out
to create a business involving, primarily, the publishing of
the ezine.  Others, however, publish the ezine only as an
adjunct to their website - a way to get their site in front
of their ezine subscribers in the hope that this will
        generate repeat traffic.

Both types of ezine publishers have one thing in common.
The need for great content.  If you've spent much time
online you'll no doubt have signed up for more than your
fair share of free ezines.  You'll have come across some
that are really good, some that are OK and some that are
nothing short of woeful, with content that looks like the
publisher has picked up the first piece of regurgitated
whatever he happened to come across today to fill up the
space between the ads for his numerous affiliate programs.

Your site may include links to your affiliate programs.
After all, that's how you make money, right?  But rather
than go the road of the ezine publisher who thinks she
can serve up any old porridge to her subscriber base and
they'll eat it up, spend the same time writing just one
good article on a subject matter relevant to your target
market and invite publishers of ezines with complementary
subject matter to publish that article, together with
your resource box at the end (the four or five line blurb
you see at the end of articles that give a little information
about the author and the author's website together with
        a link to the site).

Now, here's the important point if you expect others to
publish your work.  Your ad is your resource box, it is
NOT your article.  Your article is content.  Your article
should not mention your product, your site or anything
related to it.  Your article must stand alone as an
independently useful piece of work (and when I say useful,
I mean it must be useful to the READER, not the author!).
Don't insult your readers' intelligence by dressing up an ad
as an article.  They're not stupid - they'll see through it and
you immediately, they'll put you on their blacklist for insulting
their intelligence and no publisher worth their salt will run
        your articles anyway.

The whole purpose of writing the article is to make it such
a worthwhile piece of work that many publishers will want
to put it in front of their subscribers.  Get a good article
published in an ezine with 10,000 subscribers and see
what that does for your traffic when hundreds of those
subscribers click on the link to your site that you've
        included in your resource box.

Beginning to see how this works?  And the best thing of all
is that it only costs you time - maybe an hour, two tops
to write a decent article.  Commit to writing one a week
and getting them published and you'll have a nice little
traffic flow going, believe me (AND, if you make sure that
you write about subject matter relevant to your site, that
traffic will ALSO be targeted, qualified traffic - so much
        the better).

OK, so now you can see the power of writing articles as
a method of generating traffic to your website.  How the
heck do you find other people to publish your work?

Thanks to the fact that so many publishers out there
don't have the time or (so they believe) ability to write
their own articles, or are looking for articles to supplement
their own, you have a ready-made market of thousands
of publishers who are always on the lookout for quality
content to present to their readers.  You just have to
        find them.

Here's a partial list to get you started:

Yahoo Groups (submit from the Yahoo Groups website
        at http://groups.yahoo.com/ - you'll need to subscribe
        to these groups first):

        and these ...

When submitting your articles to the above websites, be
sensitive to the types of articles the site is looking for.
Some accept articles on any subject under the sun, others
are looking for articles on specific subjects such as internet
        marketing, for example.

Over time, you will be able to add to this list.  If submitting
to individual ezine publishers, don't be surprised or offended
if you don't receive a response.  Most ezine publishers of
any size receive dozens of article submissions a day.  Time
normally doesn't permit a response to each submission.  Also,
try and find out from the publisher whether they even accept
article submissions.  Many don't (me, for example).  I receive
many article submissions a day which just get deleted unread.

The point is, just work up your own list, write articles
consistently and submit consistently.  Over time, you'll
develop your own style of writing and attract a following.

Although it may be slow to start, you'll start getting a trickle
of new traffic from people who have come across your article
somewhere, some place and were interested enough to click
on the link in your resource box.  Over time, that trickle will
become a stream, then a river, and then a flood.

America's Research Group, one of the foremost, conducted
recent surveys regarding owners' involvement with
customers.  Needless to say, this happens more with small
businesses than with large.  But the results are rewarding
customer-wise. 1. The owner and close associates are the
most knowledgeable. 2. The customer feels important when
he/she can contact the actual owner direct. 3. The owner
        can continue the ongoing relationship.

America's Research Group showed that when a business
owner is directly involved with a customer, there is an 83
percent chance of REPEAT business. This compares to 16
to 38 percent (max) at mass marketing and overall large

"Why And Where Did It All Happen?"

When businesses begin to see "financial pain" they quickly
apply extensive advertising techniques or quick miracles
believing that the severe wounds will mend themselves.
Coupons, gimmicks and the like are the "morphine of
advertising," but result in the eventual downfall of the
        business as a whole.

Morphine was the best pain killer of the 1800's. But
because of its addictiveness, a German company invented
a derivative of it in 1874. In 1898 a major US company
renamed the derivative conjuring up an image of a beautiful
feminine hero using an advertising technique known as
        "associative memory."

Yes, the Bayer Company (Bayer Aspirin) marketed the new
product as faster acting, and more powerful than morphine
because it went directly to the brain. Bayer's research didn't
cover the grueling fact that the new product was actually
        more addictive than morphine.

For the next 20 years, Bayer marketed the new product
until it was finally declared illegal in 1924. In the interim,
the "Aspirin" appeared on the market.

Bayer's now illegal product didn't die. It made its way to
the rich and to the poor where it still remains in destructive
demand some 80 years later. What did Bayer market as a
replacement for morphine? They simply called it "Heroin."
And now you know. . .

The most significant of the evolving markets is women
(females over age 18) with their household purchasing
power towering over other groups at $3.4 trillion. While
women make significantly less than half of all household
income, they influence over 80 percent of dollars spent.
They make more decisions than men do about cars, tires,
financial services and personal computers. As buyers, they
pay more than men and are less likely to haggle over

        Women currently make up 45 percent of the total workforce;
sixty-two percent work at least part time. Over the next 10
years, the percentage of women who work will increase by
16 percent, while representation by their male counterparts
        will increase only eight percent.

Women, as entrepreneurs, are gaining more power in the
business world. There are 7.7 million women-owned firms (up
43 percent from 1990) in the United States. This 30 percent
of all businesses contributes $1 trillion to the US economy
        each year.

We are seeing some changes in the conventional male/female
roles.  Traditionally, men have been rather hedonistic; now
we find women toying with this attitude. Having suppressed
their individualistic natures as they raised children, these
women are now spending money on themselves. How are men
changing? They are experimenting with becoming SNAGS
(sensitive new-age guys). (source: Key Marketing Surveys)
